If you’ve read George Orwell’s 1984 or know anything about psychology and social sciences, then you know that controlling what information is available to people can have the effect of controlling the thinking of those people. This is one of the fundamental reasons that the First Amendment was put into place in the Constitution. The founders of America knew that people may not like to hear every opinion and viewpoint (and, frankly, some viewpoints are simply idiotic and/or offensive), but people need to be able to express those other viewpoints so that people can hear and speak the truth.
But there seems to be a concerted effort now to prevent this from happening.
The mainstream media seems to be reeling from Hillary Clinton’s loss in the election which they unanimously predicted would make her America’s first female President. Blame their predictions on the Bradley Effect, in which people provide the politically correct answer in polls to avoid criticism, if you like. It doesn’t change the fact that their predictions were wrong. So, now, instead of learning how to actually report the truth instead of their own biases, they want to silence any opposition to mainstream media networks, and “progressive” politicians are supporting them.
So, now we have a “reporter” for Politico who was exposed by wikileaks as a Clinton “hack” trying to push her election as U.S. President now calling for censorship of “fake news sights.” The European Union is so paranoid about “fake news sights” that they are demanding that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube censor them within 24 hours (by December 7, 2016).
Yet, on the flip side, we have documented evidence that politically left-leaning organizations regularly censor news to fit their particular viewpoint. For example, CNN ran a segment all but saying that Trump’s administration is going to put Muslims into internment camps in the same way that FDR did in World War II. This is despite the fact that the Trump camp hasn’t said that they are even considering internment camps.
It’s interesting that people criticizing Trump for something that he hasn’t said that he will do aren’t criticizing the Southern Poverty Law Center for labeling Tea Partiers and Libertarian-leaning people as terrorists and compiling lists of those organizations (Do they really think that the “Constitution Party of Georgia” is an extremist group? How exactly does that qualify as a dangerous group of people?).
The difficult thing is that many Americans still get their “news” from the very organizations who wish to silence any reporting from any other political angle than the mainstream media supports. This is censorship, pure and simple, and for anyone to call for the silencing of opposing viewpoints are simply seeking to control the minds of the general population by only presenting one side of the information available.
Keep in mind, this isn’t just about politics, this is also about the stability of the power grid infrastructure in America, the likelihood of an EMP attack on American soil, and the true likelihood of a disaster situation happening. If we can’t believe the mainstream media about their political reporting, how can we trust them about any other reporting?
The answer is that, we can’t.
The solution is to fight censorship of all kinds and look for media sources with viewpoints different than the mainstream media. Then you can, at least, evaluate the news to get an overall viewpoint to make intelligent decisions for you and your family.
