There are dark forces constantly plotting to destroy America.
Catastrophe could befall the United States in many terrifying forms.
But Donald Trump just took steps to protect the country against one harrowing attack.
The devastation of a nuclear strike is understood by all.
Images of mushroom clouds and fallout horror stories such as Chernobyl make the threat of nuclear attack very real.
But another attack that should scare people is an electromagnetic pulse bomb (EMP).
An EMP powerful enough could shut down the electric grid, which would do nightmarish damage.
A governmental report estimated that an EMP attack on the East coast could lead to the death of 90% of the area’s population over the course of a year due to a lack of electricity and medical services.
Such an attack could bring about the dystopian hellscapes popularized in film and television.
But Trump took an important step to prepare against that nightmare scenario when he signed an executive order calling for increased readiness and prevention methods against an EMP attack.
This is the first time a president has taken such a bold step in defending against an EMP assault.
Excerpted from a White House statement:
“It is the policy of the United States to prepare for the effects of EMPs through targeted approaches that coordinate whole-of-government activities and encourage private-sector engagement.”
The part about private-sector engagement is particularly important.
The private sector is always far ahead of government in terms of research and development.
Democrats in government love to preach about cutting America’s carbon footprint, but most of the drops in emissions have come from the private sector acting independently of government admonition.
Trump pulled out of the disastrous Paris Climate Accord, and America still cut emissions at a greater rate than any of the other countries involved.
The executive order also said:
“The federal government shall engage in risk-informed planning, prioritize research and development (R&D) to address the needs of critical infrastructure stakeholders, and, for adversarial threats, consult Intelligence Community assessments.”
This executive order will streamline the process of various agencies working with each other to come up with the best method of defense and recovery.
The attention being paid to a potential EMP attack is critical.
The power grid remains susceptible to a devastating terror strike.
One of the drawbacks of such digitally technocratic society is that so many essential functions depend on electricity.
This is one huge advantage preppers have over the rest of the population.
While most might go insane after a long weekend without power, dedicated survivalists are prepared to outlast most crises.
The logistics of pulling off a wide-scale EMP attack remain difficult, which means an attack is not likely to be imminent.
But those who wish to do harm to the United States are always plotting ways to inflict maximum damage and chaos.
A small-scale attack on a less populated city would still do considerable damage.
That’s why it’s always best to be prepared.
Be sure to have a backup generator and a healthy cache of supplies to deal with a prolonged blackout.
