The Only Way To Survive If You’re Trapped In A City When Disaster Strikes

City

Urban survival can be incredibly challenging.

Densely populated areas are typically the most dangerous in times of crisis.

These guidelines are the only way to survive if you’re trapped in a city when catastrophe hits.

If you’ve already begun your survival quest, you likely already have a bug-out bag and perhaps a bug-out vehicle, also.

You may even have a bug-out location in a remote area like the woods.

However, you may not have those resources if a situation like quarantine or total gridlock occurs.

Natural disasters may also be why you’re unable to escape the city.

These moments are when urban survival become essential.

Many argue that urban survival is impossible due to the dense mass of people crammed into a relatively small space.

Limited resources with large numbers of people is a dangerous combination.

However, urban survival is achievable, even for indefinite amounts of time, but only if you’ve made the necessary preparations.

Here are five guidelines that will help you hunker down and survive an urban crisis.

First, stockpile food and water.

According to the Survival Rule of Three, it’s possible to survive three days without water and three weeks without food.

For that reason, you must have a healthy stock of both.

Water isn’t only important for drinking, it will also be necessary for proper sanitation and hygiene.

Unsanitary conditions are an absolute killer.

Cleanliness is one of the key factors to life expectancy skyrocketing over the last 150 years.

You can never have too much water stored away.

It’s arguably the most important commodity, and its scarcity in a crisis is what makes urban survival so difficult.

Major metropolitan areas won’t have easy access to water when disaster strikes.

Second, you need to have a generator.

Another significant challenge of urban survival is a lack of energy.

If the power grid fails, civilization will quickly become benighted.

Possessing backup power sources are vital.

A generator will make everything from food preparation to health maintenance significantly easier.

You’ll need to have properly stored gas to make a generator worth your time, but it’s worth it.

The only challenge will be to keep your generator from becoming a magnet for people who wish to do you harm and steal your resources.

Next, have a healthy stock of firearms.

If an urban city descends into chaos, lawlessness might become the default setting, similar to the Old West.

Protecting yourself against people looking to steal assets and resources will become a major concern.

The threat of scarcity will lead people to do immoral things, so protect yourself against desperate intruders.

Also, fortify your home.

Even if you’re armed to the teeth, deadly force should be an absolute last resort.

The better option is deterrence.

Thieves often look for the path of least resistance, so protect your property with alarms, cameras, floodlights, and other defense mechanisms.

Finally, have a healthy stock of first-aid supplies.

Basic first-aid skills and supplies are a necessity because regular services will almost assuredly be suspended.

If you have specific medical needs, make sure you plan ahead so you’re not reliant on medical attention that won’t be coming.

Urban survival is incredibly challenging, but if you follow these steps, you’ll give yourself a fighting chance.
