Most people generally think that the purpose of the U.S. border patrol is to maintain the borders and to prevent illegal people and items from entering the U.S. To accomplish this task, you would think that this needs to take place at the border.
But they apparently don’t think so anymore.
An article at teaparty.org notes
“However, many also said they’re concerned that too many law enforcement officials — including border patrol agents — unlawfully stretch their authority by using aggressive tactics when interrogating law-abiding citizens traveling in their own country.”
So, apparently, our borders are not the only place where “border patrols” are happening and police aggression is increasing.
When you see documented situations of harassment and unwarranted police aggression, you have to wonder what kind of people are drawn to this type of work. Certainly, not all law enforcement officers are in that job for the purposes of abusing power, but a significant enough number are that we have a potential problem.
Combine that problem with a government that doesn’t abide by its Constitutional limits on harassing its citizens, and you have a potential martial law situation just waiting for an excuse.
