Make Your Own Homemade, Off-Grid Cough Syrup

Being sick is miserable. You don’t feel like doing anything but sleeping (if you’re lucky, otherwise, you hate what you do feel like doing: like throwing up). And if you hate being sick in our current world, imagine what you’ll feel like if you get sick after the SHTF. You’ll be miserable, and you likely will have little to no access to current pharmaceuticals to help you to feel better.

So, what do you do?

Well, one option is to learn how to make your own natural remedies. With that in mind, one of the natural remedies which you are to find the most use for is something to help with cough. And, if it helps to clear phlegm out of your lungs, well that much better!

Fortunately, that is exactly what a writer named Sherice gives us in a recipe for that exact syrup. In this recipe, you only need three ingredients: carrots (1/2 kg), honey (3-4 tablespoons), and freshly chopped ginger (2 teaspoons). And the instructions for making the syrup and for use of the syrup? From Sherice:

Instructions [for making]:

-Cut the carrots into small pieces and place into a small saucepan and add water until they are completely covered.
-Cook over medium heat.
-Once it’s boiling, add the ginger and boil until the carrots are soft.
-Strain through a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl, do not throw away the water.
-Blend the carrots and ginger until smooth.
-When the water is lukewarm, add honey and stir until it’s dissolved.
-Add water to the mashed carrots and blend again until smooth.

How to consume?

You need to take 3-4 spoons of this mixture everyday and after 1-2 days it will help you get rid of your cough, and it will help remove phlegm for your lungs.

So, easy ingredients to gather, even in a disaster situation, and you’ll notice that this recipe is simple to make, too. This is exactly the kind of recipe that we need for an off the grid situation, and, frankly, this is something that you’re likely to use if you’re off grid for any real amount of time. So, you may want to try this recipe now so that you don’t have to think about how to do it later.
