Hysteria over the Wuhan virus has spiraled out of control.
Pro-lockdown officials have gone to extreme lengths to enforce face coverings.
But one health expert gave a shocking warning about wearing masks.
People who want to prolong the coronavirus crisis are obsessed with wearing masks.
Some local officials have even called for people who don’t wear masks to be thrown in jail.
Meanwhile, pro-lockdown officials are eager to let criminals out of jail.
However, the hysteria of masks is very likely overblown.
According to Anders Tegnell, chief epidemiologist at Sweden’s Public Health Agency, masks aren’t really effective at all.
In fact, Tegnell believes masks can be detrimental because they give a false sense of security.
Tegnell said, “It is very dangerous to believe face masks would change the game when it comes to COVID-19…Face masks can be a complement to other things when other things are safely in place…But to start with having face masks and then think you can crowd your buses or your shopping malls — that’s definitely a mistake.”
Tegnell believes social distancing and isolating at-risk and symptomatic people are the effective waves of curtailing the virus.
As a result, the coronavirus outbreak is essentially over in the country.
Tegnell added, “With numbers diminishing very quickly in Sweden, we see no point in wearing a face mask in Sweden, not even on public transport…That Sweden has come down to these levels is very promising…The curves are going down and the curves for the seriously ill are beginning to approach zero.”
So the mask hysteria really needs to stop.
Months ago, Dr. Anthony Fauci said masks weren’t terribly effective in slowing the spread of the virus.
He later admitted that was a lie to ensure masks remained available for healthcare workers.
But it’s possible Dr. Fauci’s original statement on masks was correct.
Other studies separate from Tegnell’s assessment have shown that there’s scant evidence masks are all that effective.
The wearing of masks have almost become both symbols of virtue and compliance.
Neither rationale is particularly useful for a nation.
Top doctors from the Netherlands came to a similar conclusion as Tegnell.
Coen Berends of the National Institute for Public Health and Environment said of masks, “There is no benefit and there may even be negative impact…[T]he Outbreak Management Team…believes [masks] detract from a clear three-pronged message that has kept deaths from coronavirus down to less than half the rate in Britain: wash hands regularly, maintain social distancing of 1.5 metres and stay at home if suffering any symptoms.”
The guidelines for reopening the country are clear, but pro-lockdown people are determined to scare people indoors forever.
