The Wuhan virus has been the biggest calamity the world has seen in many decades.
More and more countries are beginning to understand China’s role in the catastrophe.
And a dangerous confrontation with China could be inevitable for this one reason.
There are now 3.58 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus around the world and over 252,000 deaths.
The United States accounts for nearly one-third of cases with 1.12 million and almost 70,000 deaths.
As U.S. officials learn more about the origins of the outbreak, it’s become clear that the virus very likely originated in a biohazard lab in Wuhan and was released due to human error.
A Fox News report said that China was conducting dangerous experiments as a way to compete with the United States. U.S. officials also believe China had recently conducted underground nuclear tests.
Concerned about an escalation with China, Donald Trump issued an executive order declaring a national emergency over threats to the U.S. power grid.
The executive order would ban power grid infrastructure from foreign adversaries and would seek to replace any existing hardware.
Trump wrote, “Additional steps are required to protect the security, integrity, and reliability of bulk-power system electric equipment used in the United States…In light of these findings, I hereby declare a national emergency with respect to the threat to the United States bulk-power system.”
Cyberattacks on the U.S. power grid have been a concern for years, and this executive order will create a task force to determine any vulnerabilities and how to secure them.
Trump continued, “A successful attack on our bulk-power system would present significant risks to our economy, human health and safety, and would render the United States less capable of acting in defense of itself and its allies.”
The coronavirus has exposed the fragility of supply chains around the world, so a disruption in the power grid would be even more disastrous.
Malicious actors have sought to leverage unauthorized access to the bulk power system against the U.S.for over a decade. A prolonged shutdown of the power grid would lead to tens of millions of deaths in the United States.
This executive order is an important move as tensions with China escalate.
The Chinese government has previously tested EMPs, which could hamper the power grid in a major city.
The Chinese Communist Party has also deployed hackers to engage in cyberattacks against America.
China will likely get more aggressive in these 21st-century warfare tactics in light of the coronavirus.
Their lies and shameless profiteering in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic has angered many governments.
While many in the American press regurgitate Chinese propaganda, the member states of the European Union have taken a harsher tone.
China knows there will be repercussions for their actions and they could lash out.
