One Coronavirus Policy Is Making Cities Much More Dangerous

Coronavirus Mayor Bill de Blasio

The Wuhan virus has led to extreme measures across the globe.

Different states within America are handling the pandemic differently.

But one coronavirus policy is making cities much more dangerous.

One consequence of the coronavirus outbreak is that big-government politicians are using it as an opportunity to cram through policies they’ve always wanted enacted.

Criminal justice reform is one particular area where liberal politicians hold radical views.

Several jurisdictions have flirted with soft-on-crime policies and the results have been disastrous, leading to law-and-order candidates getting elected with a mandate.

Once the city is secure, the populace goes back to lax criminal policies.

New York City is currently going through that cycle.

The city was in decay for decades before Rudy Giuliani took office, but those gains are gradually reversing under far-left mayor Bill de Blasio, who recently admitted his bail reform policy led to a spike in crime.

Something similar is happening with regards to the coronavirus.

Jurisdictions are letting out criminals due to the coronavirus, and the recidivism rate is not reducing.

Again, Mayor de Blasio lamented that fact:

“I think it’s unconscionable just on a human level that folks were shown mercy and this is what some of them have done…We do see some recidivism. I have not seen a huge amount, but any amount is obviously troubling.”

This disturbing trend was highlighted in California when one man was arrested three times in 12 hours.

He was first arrested for breaking into a vehicle and attempting to flee the scene in the stolen vehicle, but because of California’s zero-bail policy, he was given a citation.

In the afternoon, he was arrested for stealing items from various properties in a neighborhood.

He was again cited and released.

Later in the evening, the same man was arrested for auto theft and evading officers.

Another California man was arrested four times over the course of two days for trespassing.

Even more absurd is the fact that the leftist politicians who are letting criminals run rampant will arrest law-abiding citizens for disobeying draconian lockdown orders.

In Chicago, far-left mayor Lori Lightfoot said, “We will shut you down, we will cite you, and if we need to, we will arrest you and we will take you to jail.”

Meanwhile, Lightfoot broke her own lockdown orders so she could get a haircut.

The Wuhan virus is providing Americans a look into what life is like in a socialist country.

The government determines who is “essential” and “nonessential,” dissent is censored, lines for toilet paper wrap around the block, and the ruling elites do what they want.

Infamous Soviet dissident Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn once said, “A Marxist system is recognized by the fact that it spares criminals and criminalizes political opponents.”

This is precisely what the country is experiencing.
