New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been a complete disaster.
He made the deadly decision to put COVID patients back into nursing homes.
But Cuomo’s state is on the brink of collapse after one idiotic decision.
One of the many problems with leftists is that they refuse to accept basic reality.
The reality is cities can quickly collapse when the tax base is scared away, and that’s the big mistake New York has made.
Both Cuomo and communist New York City mayor Bill de Blasio have made the state so unmanageable that people are fleeing in droves.
High taxes, burdensome regulations, and decreased public safety have all contributed to a significant exodus from the state.
In order to pay the bloated budget mandates, the state has had to raise property taxes and significantly increase the cost of infractions like speeding tickets.
Adding to that, De Blasio has made New York City unsafe by demonizing his own police force from the start, and now supporting the “defund the police” movement.
De Blasio disbanded a plain-clothes crime reduction unit and shooting and murders soon skyrocketed.
New York City is quickly reverting to the pre-Rudy Giuliani days when crime was rampant.
Cuomo’s terrible handling of the Wuhan virus has also contributed to New Yorkers fleeing.
Apartment vacancies in Manhattan are the highest they’ve been in years, and property value has decreased in the same area.
The problem has gotten so bad, Cuomo is practically begging millionaires and billionaires to remain in the state.
Cuomo pleaded to departed New Yorkers:
“I literally talk to people all day long who are now in their Hamptons house who also lived here, or in their Hudson Valley house, or in their Connecticut weekend house, and I say, ‘You got to come back! We’ll go to dinner! I’ll buy you a drink! Come over, I’ll cook!’”
De Blasio is an ideologue, so he really doesn’t respond to reality.
He failed the departed New Yorkers as “fair weather friends.”
People have options and politicians like de Blasio are not entitled to their money.
“They’re not coming back right now. And you know what else they’re thinking? ‘If I stay there, I’ll pay a lower income tax,’ because they don’t pay the New York City surcharge…If you pass a piece of legislation that requires New York to raise taxes, raise a millionaires’ tax in this environment in New York City, where we’re struggling…We used to be worried [with a] millionaires’ tax, people might leave…The burden shifted. We’re trying to get people to come back. We’re trying to get them to come back.”
This isn’t the first time Cuomo has encouraged New Yorkers to stay, and it probably won’t be the last.
Again, most Democrats deny reality and are still deluded enough to disconnect their voting values with the problems that befall their home state.
