These Places Will be Crucial in the Aftermath of a Devastating Crisis

Crisis

Nobody wants to think about the possibility of a society-altering emergency striking the United States.

However, survivalists know that such an event could happen at any time, and it’s best to be prepared.

If the unthinkable does happen, there are places that will become very important.

One of the wonders of our free market system is that we’re able to have access to an abundance of many resources very quickly.

But scarcity of resources will become a big problem in the wake of a catastrophic event.

Suddenly, common services that we’ve grown accustomed to will be unavailable.

If you’ve prepared well, you may have supplies to subsist for years.

But even the most prepared may find themselves in need as their stock runs low.

That’s why it will become important to be able to scavenge for resources.

The main thing to keep in mind is that other people will be thinking the same thing, so timing is critical.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a scavenging plan in place ahead of time, so you can get to your spots before they’re picked over clean.

In addition to that, it’s best to go scavenging at night, but also when night owls won’t be on the prowl.

A few hours before dawn is an ideal time to avoid as many people as possible.

Here are some places that should be prime considerations for scavenging.

  1. Junkyard

Scrap metal will become an important commodity.

Metal can be used to construct shelters, fortify a location, and forge other items depending on resources and expertise.

A junkyard is a scavenger’s oasis.

You never know when you’ll come across something of value that has been discarded.

  1. Storage facility

In a SHTF scenario, many valuable items will have to be abandoned.

Out of necessity, people will have to walk away from houses, cars, and storage facilities.

Abandoned storage units will have all kinds of supplies, particularly things that come in handy that never even crossed your mind.

  1. Office buildings

Abandoned buildings will have all kinds of items worth exploring.

Scrap metal, scrap wood, writing utensils, and chairs are just some of the items that would be of use.

And depending on the type of business, there might be even more valuable information.

Electronic equipment such as computers could not only be useful, but the components could be used for replacement parts.

  1. Used Car Lot

You may need to get your hands on a replacement bug-out vehicle.

Used cars are a better option for a couple of reasons.

First, newer cars are much harder to access without the key unless you have a computer and advanced auto theft skills.

Also, older cars are easier to hot-wire, and their parts are easier to salvage.

  1. Hospital

Getting your hands on first-aid supplies and medicine is a must.

Abandoned hospitals and health care facilities would be a treasure trove of essentials.

From bandages and sheets to insulin and blood pressure medicine, hospitals and urgent care clinics should be at the top of the list when the SHTF.
